They are not witches!

The heat has descended. In no way am I referring to the gradual rise in temperature, where watered down beers are broken out of recently purchased coolers, and those can afford to be without shirts will go without. No, what I'm referring to is a literal blitzkrieg attack of hair-raping humidity and inhumane temperatures. My dear friends, August is upon us, and with that, you have little chance of surviving without hearing the sickening (but oddly pleasing?) sounds of LFO's "Summergirls".... until today. Alas, I have assembled for you a mixtape, frantic assortment of summer-orientated lyrics about women, men, alcohol and other mundane things that shimmer so poignantly in popular song! With these previously unrelated statements in mind, I sincerely hope that you enjoy this assortment of musical pleasure!

I advise you to err on the side of caution though, because this collection is intended for the water, for the sun, and for that miniscule space between your ears and the cave of your headphones. The union of song featured below is NOT intended to be purveyed at dawn, or any other such time where tender summer moments are stripped bare to their necessities. In simpler words, this is a daytime mixtape.

Apocalyptic Heat, where are your arch-angel children?

SIDE B

SIDE C

For those of you who are ridiculously stubborn (also known as all the readers of this little blog...) and would love nothing more than to listen to this mixtape in the forbidden "time between", I thought I'd offer you up two tracks to accompany the sun's descent!

Eleven - Bay of Pigs - Destroyer (13 minutes and 39 seconds)
[clicking Bay of Pigs will bring you to a link, which is the stream of the song. We'll offer the song up for download as soon as robotically possible]

Twelve - Tribute To - Yim Yames (6 song EP)
[clicking Tribute To will bring you to Stereogum, which offers the entirety of the this George Harrison tribute album streaming. I'm not going to offer each song, basically because one of the songs is already in the Summer mixtape, and because I actually paid money for this. You should too!]

So, enjoy, and look forward to a cavalcade of posts that is sure to be brought upon you before the madness of the school year.

Yeah, I miss him too.

See you soon?

I went in where the makeup girl came through, I waited there for ages, I waited there for you

Hello dear world, and welcome to another beautiful October evening, here on Looks Like Coffee, Tastes Like Juice. I've got quite a post in store for you today, whoever you may be, and it will include the following; the  new Andrew Bird album, some completely random youtube videos (which I think I should make a weekly feature?), and part two of the oh-so good Official Autumn Mixtape. So, scroll the page down, and continue reading this week's edition of Looks Like Coffee, Tastes Like Juice.

Andrew Bird, My Heart Belongs To You

If you're a human being, or a reader of this blog (hopefully, you're both), then you are completely aware of my ... obsession, of sorts, with a mister Andrew Bird. It all started when, let's see, The Mysterious Production of Eggs came out, in whatever year it came out. After hearing the opening lines of Sovay, I knew it was love at first listen.

So, it is time again for Andrew, or Mr.Bird as I'd prefer to call him, to release a new album after the success of last year's fantastic Armchair Apocrypha. Anyways, the new album will be called Noble Beast, and it'll drop January 27th (coincidentally, this is also the date I will be at Dr.Disc purchasing it). From what I've heard of this album, a good portion, I may add, it is pretty spectacular.

I'll leave you, the dedicated reader, with a track from the new album, entitled "Oh No". Also, if you're wondering whether Mr.Andrew "Whistlin'" Bird delivered the goods on the whistling front on this song ... well, we'll just say he did. Take a listen and see what you think.

Here's the fantastic track list for Noble Beast;

1 Oh No
2 Masterswarm
3 Fitz and Dizzyspells
4 Effigy
5 Tenuousness
6 Nomenclature
7 Not a Robot, But a Ghost
8 Anonanimal
9 Natural Disaster
10 Confess
11 Souverian
12 On Ho!

And now, a NEW feature!

As all of you should know by now, I'm pretty notorious for adding/taking away multitudes of fun little features on this here blog. This occasion is no different. Lately, I've been getting the urge to post random videos from YouTube on here, just because I've found them very interesting (if you look backwards, you can see that I sometimes act on these impulses). Therefore, I think it's only appropriate to do this every week. So, for the first time in history, I'd like to preset to you, the people, an Official Looks Like Coffee Tastes Like Juice Feature: Random YouTube Videos. The link brings you straight to the page.

and finally ...

That wasn't so bad, now, was it?

Looks Like Coffee, Tastes Like Autumn; The Official Autumn Mixtape Part 2
(P.S I'm on my sister's laptop, which explains the limited song selection)

3. Behind Blue Eyes - The Who [who I'll be witnessing live in 16 days!]

4. Dust Flowers - Norman Nehmetallah [this is just a really rough demo that I recorded about 7 months ago, as an idea for a song]

That's all for this week, expect parts 3 to 1999994432544 soon.

A long distance call to a mystery blonde

Hello, and welcome to the Sunday Edition of Looks Like Coffee, Tastes Like Juice. I thought that instead of doing a general Sunday mixtape today, I thought I would let the vicissitudes that I so often try to repress in this blog be. My impetus for doing this mixtape is well ... nothing?. I just happen to think that a mixtape revolving around the human body is rather fascinating, so I'm going to give it a shot. Tell me what you think.
Looks Like Coffee, Tastes Like Juice Sunday Mixtape: The Human Body

The Skin Of My Yellow Country Teeth - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

Foam Hands - Destroyer

Red Right Ankle - The Decemberists

Without A Face - Rage Against The Machine

Flightless Bird, American Mouth - Iron & Wine

Bigmouth Strikes Again - The Smiths

Pale Blue Eyes - The Velvet Underground

So, I hope everyone enjoyed today's special Sunday mixtape. On another note, I have a couple updates to tell you about;

1) I'm looking for another contributor to, well, contribute to the blog. If you have an idea for a theme or think you might want to contribute regularly, leave a comment in the comment box.

2) I'm seriously considering volunteering for a show at CJAM 91.5. If anyone is interested in co-hosting a weekly radio program with me, please, leave a comment in the comment box.

Yes, I suffer from a horrible aboulia, and therefore, lack the will to make a decision by myself. So, I'm seriously asking for some opinions on the above matters.

Thanks, and enjoy your Sunday.

A penny for your thoughts was never enough, your head gets filled with that stuff

Good evening everyone, and welcome to another Band of the Week/Thursday Blues post on Looks Like Coffee, Tastes Like Juice. Today we'll be featuring, like every Thursday, some old-fashioned blues and, of course, the band of the week. I'll start with the latter;

The Band of the Week: Destroyer

Literate, elegant, full of marvelous grandeur, who else could I be talking about but Mr. Dan Bejar, who plays music under the moniker Destroyer (Which he insists is not a solo project, but a fully functioning band. Though, it does have a rather fluctuating lineup, so it is much easy to just refer to it as a solo project) . Mr.Bejar is also a member of the supergroups The New Pornographers and Swan Lake. Now, he is a very impressive and talented musician, don't get me wrong, but what's really most impressive about Mr.Bejar is his astounding lyrics. I can only think of a few artists who're such masters of word play and annunciation. There are only a couple artists who can make me pull out a dictionary, and I can honestly say that Destroyer is one. Listen to a couple tracks and you might just become as obsessed as I am.

Rubies - Destroyer

Epic is completely over-used when describing this song, but it is just so fitting.

Blue Flower / Blue Flame - Destroyer

A beautiful track off his new album, Trouble In Dreams.

and for the blues portion of the post ...

Future Blues - Willie Brown

and for the first time in blog history ...

Slide Blues Jam - Sean Antaya (of The Psychedelic Blues Explosion obscureness)

Enjoy, and remember to wish me a happy birthday tomorrow!

We are the custard pie appreciation consortium

Ah, well, today I'm feeling rather lazy and seeing as it IS Random Music Day on Looks Like Coffee Tastes Like Juice, I'm going to just post a couple songs that were stuck in my head today.

Village Green Preservation Society- The Kinks

This song seems to be stuck in my head everyday

Painter In Your Pocket - Destroyer

I used to walk to school every single day last year, and I would basically shout along with this song. Needless to say, both the kids whom I was walking with now know this song by heart.

Money, That's What I Want (With Robert Plant) - Pearl Jam

Whenever this song seems to casually appear in my life, I go into what seems to be an inane laughing fit. This is because of the movie Empire Records. When Joe finds out Lucas stole the money, Gina puts the Flying Lizard version of this song on and everyone dances to it. If you don't know what I'm talking about in the previous line, get the hell off my blog. Damn the man! Save the empire!

Jodi - The Dodos

"You give us bread, you keep us warm
What I do for you in turn
I leave you with this memory stained
Between the sheets, under the rain
Your face is pale, your lips are red
Your eyes are dark, you might be dead
But I will hold you even then
Until you breathe and I am fed"

Enjoy
