Rapture Ready, I Gazed At The Body!

Good morning, sovereign nation! It is currently 11:18 A.M, which is approximately the time that a young man should be creating puddles of drool in the middle of his math textbook, paying his unfounded dues to the faceless monster that is the hierarchy of education! Yet, on this gloriously foggy morning, I have defeated that faceless monster. For 24 hours. Yes, I am at home "sick"! If your definition of sick is similar to mine, i.e lazy, achy, full of Kraft Dinner, bombarded with new music, then you can probably take those quotations off of sick! In my fragile state, I've been all over the musical map, and decided that this morning, I would veer away from the "New York - California" theme, put down my Hot ChocQuil (which is my newly patented mixture of hot chocolate and NyQuil!), and let your pretty little fingers delve deep into my recent listening habits! Please listen responsibly!

The Necessarily Poppy Prequel to Elusive, Wispy Autumn Mixtape! (Ease up on the adjectives, Norman!)

Lightning Strikes The Postman - The Flaming Lips!

The Flaming Lips have been very persistent in the battle to win over my listener-ship! All their efforts are fruitless though, because I have been an obsessive-to-the-point-of-alarming fan since the first ten seconds of "With You" on their first album, Hear It Is. Relentless in their awe-inspiring disregard for knowing how to technically play instruments well, the Flaming Lips are kicking the shit out of my ear canals today! This song is off of their 1995 masterpiece, Clouds Taste Metallic.

Lately - BOAT

There are certain instances when the hair of a fifteen year old boy, which may be one of the least delicate things in the universe, next to the hands of an experienced miner, can be completely misshapen by a pair of monumental headphones. This sacrifice of hair-form is completely acceptable when it's caused by four chords, and a song that screams for good times in the verse, and saves the bad times for the bridge.

BOAT have just recently released their new LP, entitled Setting the Paces! I'll give you a little a piece of advice: go find it. Whatever environmental shit you need to muddle through, find this record. It's worth it.

She Will Only Bring You Happiness - Mclusky

The Difference Between Me and You Is That I'm Not on Fire
.
This song is terrific.
I wouldn't lie to you.
Listen to it!

Walk on Water - Midnight Masses

The damage is done.

Rejoice, readers! Football season is almost finished, or as the french would say, terminated!
What does that mean?! I will have a whole slew of time just ripe to force my opinions and impeccable tastes upon you!

Remember, at least you'll die humming pop songs!

They are not witches!

The heat has descended. In no way am I referring to the gradual rise in temperature, where watered down beers are broken out of recently purchased coolers, and those can afford to be without shirts will go without. No, what I'm referring to is a literal blitzkrieg attack of hair-raping humidity and inhumane temperatures. My dear friends, August is upon us, and with that, you have little chance of surviving without hearing the sickening (but oddly pleasing?) sounds of LFO's "Summergirls".... until today. Alas, I have assembled for you a mixtape, frantic assortment of summer-orientated lyrics about women, men, alcohol and other mundane things that shimmer so poignantly in popular song! With these previously unrelated statements in mind, I sincerely hope that you enjoy this assortment of musical pleasure!

I advise you to err on the side of caution though, because this collection is intended for the water, for the sun, and for that miniscule space between your ears and the cave of your headphones. The union of song featured below is NOT intended to be purveyed at dawn, or any other such time where tender summer moments are stripped bare to their necessities. In simpler words, this is a daytime mixtape.

Apocalyptic Heat, where are your arch-angel children?
An Official Looks Like Coffee, Tastes Like Juice Mixtape!

SIDE A

SIDE B

SIDE C

For those of you who are ridiculously stubborn (also known as all the readers of this little blog...) and would love nothing more than to listen to this mixtape in the forbidden "time between", I thought I'd offer you up two tracks to accompany the sun's descent!

Eleven - Bay of Pigs - Destroyer (13 minutes and 39 seconds)
[clicking Bay of Pigs will bring you to a link, which is the stream of the song. We'll offer the song up for download as soon as robotically possible]

Twelve - Tribute To - Yim Yames (6 song EP)
[clicking Tribute To will bring you to Stereogum, which offers the entirety of the this George Harrison tribute album streaming. I'm not going to offer each song, basically because one of the songs is already in the Summer mixtape, and because I actually paid money for this. You should too!]

So, enjoy, and look forward to a cavalcade of posts that is sure to be brought upon you before the madness of the school year.

Yeah, I miss him too.

See you soon?

The speakers are blown but the pen on the desk keeps on shaking

Hello, and welcome to another Random Wednesday on Looks Like Coffee, Tastes Like Juice. I'll give you a moment to mentally prepare yourself for the upcoming tidal wave of really good music, that comes without theme or particular order. So, enjoy today's Random Wednesday and remember to leave a comment if you enjoy a track.

Come Home Baby Julie, Come Home - American Analog Set

I know, I know, I know I post an obscene amount of American Analog Set on here, but what can you expect? They ARE one of my favorite bands. Anyways, this song is up here as an ode to my very good friend Julie Morand, who is celebrating her 16th birthday on this very day. Happy Birthday Julie!

Ghosts Are Good Company [Park Drive Outtake] - Bishop Allen

This song is, basically, as honest as honest gets. I'm talking Jim Carrey wasn't even this honest in Liar, Liar.

"I can't do this, I can't do that
I can't believe I got so fat
At least ghosts are good company
I can't believe it is so cold
I should get up before I get old
And then I'll change my ways
Before my ways change me

I was afraid
Afraid of the emptiness
Afraid of the silence
Afraid of my ghosts
Now they're here
We can share laughter
Talk about old times
It's not so bad"

Do you see what I mean? Plus, the ridiculous voice that repeats the lines at the end always makes me laugh as well.

A Phone That Rings For Free - BOAT

I really, really, love BOAT. I own both of their albums and I consistently listen to them. What I'm trying to get at is, I want you to love them as well.

Satan Said Dance - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

The frantic opening piano, the buzzes and blips, the odd-job vocals, and, course, the repeating of "Satan, Satan, Satan." My mother has actually stood in my door while this song played, frowning menacingly, and told me to turn my Satan music off.

and now, for the 60's, 70's, 80's portion that I forgot to post yesterday

You know what, I really don't feel like it.

Enjoy.
