Before this post officially stops with a blunt and pretentious introduction, I'd just like to say that Grizzly Bear's Veckatimest is officially released in two weeks (WOAH!) and the countdown has officially begun. Although the album has already leaked, my faithful ears have yet to hear anything other than Cheerleader and Two Weeks. The verdict? I'm content with throwing up every record I've ever owned. Yeah, that good.

Hello everyone, and welcome to another glorious Friday evening here on Looks Like Coffee, Tastes Like Juice. Today, we'll be featuring the official Song of the Day, but before I do that, I just wanted to make a small announcement. For those of you who do not read regularly, or who are eagerly awaiting this information (probably not many of you), I will be playing my first ever show at Dr.Disc Records, on May 31st. Here's the information: The show is at 3pm, on May 31st, and I'll be playing until 4pm. I'm not getting paid to play, and you don't have to pay to come, seeing as it's in the back of a record store (i.e an in store performance). I'll be playing about 40% original songs, and 60% cover songs, as I haven't got that many songs written yet (I'm writing/recording my debut album this July/August/September/October, and I hope to have it out in December, but more about that later). So, if you can make it out, my appreciation would be immense. Alright, that's definitely enough about myself, let's move on to the track of the day.

Southampton Dock & The Final Cut - Pink Floyd (1983's The Final Cut)

As you can see, the Song of the Day is actually the Songs of the Day. They are two songs that bleed right into each other, and could basically be the same song, so I decided to post them both. The songs are Southampton Dock and The Final Cut, by one of my favorite bands, Pink Floyd. They are both featured on the very last Pink Floyd studio album, The Final Cut. The album has been received warmly by neither fans nor critics. I, however, beg to disagree. The Final Cut features some of my favorite Pink Floyd tracks, and I believe that it is just as good as any of their previous albums (except Animals and Wish You Were Here). The reason this album receives so much flak from, just about everyone, is because it is basically a Roger Waters album. It is overtly-political, strays very much from the original "Floydian" sound, and only features vocals from David Gilmore on one track (Not Now John). Roger Waters even fired original keyboardist Rick Wright, so this was also the first Floyd album he didn't appear on.

Despite all these things though, The Final Cut still remains very dear to me. So, here my two favorite tracks from the album

I am home, I am home, I am home. Welcome to today's Wednesday edition of Looks Like Coffee, Tastes Like Juice. I have a couple orders of business to attend to before I get to the actual music, so hold tight. First of all, I'd like to thank Joseph for his excellent job taking care of posting while I was away on my four day graduation trip. He will continue (if he wishes) to be a regular contributor to this blog. Second, there will be two posts today (one in the morning; one in the evening) seeing as I did not find the time yesterday night to write a post. So, consider this to be yesterdays post. This track was released on a split EP put out by two of my favorite songwriters, Ben Gibbard (of Death Cab For Cutie fame) and Andrew Kenny (of American Analog Set fame)

Don't Go Home With Your Hard-On - Leonard Cohen

The up-beat, phased out music, accompanied by an exciting saxophone, sets the stage for this tale of a boy following in his fathers scheming ways. I laugh out loud every time I see the title of this song.

Bring the Boys Back Home - Pink Floyd

This is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs. It starts of with a marching beat and then a crowd of people gloriously shouting the lyrics to Bring the Boys Back Home, filled with bravado. It fades quickly to many sounds from the albums, such as the manager, the groupie and manic laughter. A perfect lead-in to Comfortably Numb.

Care of Cell 44 - The Zombies (1968)

A fantastic song off one of my favorite records, Odessey And Oracle. It's a rather unique song written in the form of a letter that a man is sending to his girlfriend in prison, which is a very uncommon situation in today's society. By the way, for those of you who are a bit fanatical about spelling, the title of the record, Odessey And Oracle, which is misspelled, has always been thought to have been misspelled for a certain reason. It was later revealed that it was a simple spelling mistake on the bands part.

Bad Moon Rising - Creedence Clearwater Revival (1969)

This song was written after John Fogerty viewed the movie The Devil And Daniel Webster, in which a hurricane wipes out most of a town.

Four Sticks - Led Zeppelin (1971)

While not the best song on Zeppelin 4, this song showcases John Bonhams mastery of the drums. It's titled Four Sticks because of the way Mr.Bonham plays the song with four drum sticks. Need I say anymore? Just give it a listen and you'll know what I mean.

A Pillow Of Winds - Pink Floyd (1971)

If this song fails to make you tired, you are beyond insomnia.

The Cutter - Echo & The Bunnymen (1983)

Featuring signature Echo vocals and guitar, this song basically sounds like Echo & The Bunnymen, and not much else.

Visions Of Johanna - Bob Dylan (1966 rereleased in 1985 on the boxset Biograph)

My second favorite Dylan song (One upped only by Oxford Town) this song was definitely the highlight of Blonde on Blonde, coincidentally my favorite Dylan album as well. Here I present to you live version of unparalleled quality.
