Good evening (you may notice that this post is actually being posted on Monday morning, but alas, it was written on Sunday night; I just didn't finish it) everyone, and welcome to another late night edition of Looks Like Coffee, Tastes Like Juice. If you take a look to the schedule on your right (or the top of the page if you suffer from dyslexia), you will notice that today's post is going to be a Song of the Day post. So, without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, the song of the day!
The Song of the Day; Cheers Darlin' - Damien Rice (Off 2003's O)
Damien Rice has, for a couple years now, remained a definite constant in his life. If you've known me anywhere from 2003 - 2008, you'd know that his CD O is always being played in my room, and my head. His masterful songwriting, and gentle guitar picking/strumming, never cease to amaze me. From strictly whispery, acoustic songs, to a soaring opera, there is not one track off 2003's O that I do not like.
Today's Song of the Day is one of my personal favorites from Mr.Rice (my top five, at least), and it encompasses strong elements of jazz. Here we see Mr.Rice, a depressed attendant at his ex-lovers wedding, singing about his deep loathe, coupled with an equally deep desire. It is definitely a unique track, with a perfect atmosphere, created by the chatting over clanking glasses in the beginning.
So, I leave you today with the Song of the Day. I hope you enjoy it.
Cheers Darlin' - Damien Rice
