Slow Bending Axe

Good morning, morning, morning, morning, afternoon. Today is a wonderful day, not because the sun is shining, not because there are actually humane temperatures outside, and not because a new Wilco album is being released this June. The reason for today's wonderfulness is a combination of the previous stated reason, which can be summed up in a simple sentence; Today is the last day of February. There may not be a universal dislike for the month of February, yet I can't help but harbor a disdain for the said month in my heart. Perhaps it's because the weather is (for the most part) macabre, maybe it's because I always forget the unnecessary first "R" when spelling the word, whatever the reason, I'm not a zealot of February. Therefore, I'm glad that it's over. Onwards? I should think so.

New Wilco Album? This June? Bitchin'!

As you have probably already gathered from the title of the above inconspicuous subheading, Wilco is releasing a new album this June. Rolling Stone's Smoking Section got a special preview of seven songs on the new Wilco album, and they absolutely raved that it sounded like "a home run". Yankee Hotel Foxtrot? I think not. I still have high hopes for this album though. Confirmed tracks/titles are: “Wilco, The Song,” “Deeper Down,” “My Country Has Disappeared” and “Sunny Feeling.” Here are a couple live MP3s of some new Wilco, via You Ain't No Picasso.

Live Wilco MP3s!

Dark Was the Night is stunning. For those of you who haven't heard of it (I'm certain that I posted the tracklisting a couple weeks ago?), Dark Was the Night is a charity compilation (composed with a slew of bad ass musicians) benefiting the Red Hot Organization, which is an organization helping to improve awareness of HIV and AIDS. The double disc (for the price of one!) was produced by Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National (convinced?), and features exclusive (and fantastic) tracks from ...

THIS DISC (DISC ONE):

  13. "Stolen Houses (Die)" - Iron & Wine
  14. "Service Bell" - Grizzly Bear + Feist

Brackett, WI - Bon Iver

Just a small tidbit of information (which is very significant to myself), but my dear friend Simona has now become the press agent? for the wonderful Windsor band Amour Amour, whose MySpace is located...

I have found myself in the cracks in the floorboards, under which I have written books on monotheistic cockroaches.

Vogue China is the Chinese edition of Vogue magazine. The magazine carries a mixture of foreign and local content.

The Boy and the Fog (Spanish: El Niño y la niebla) is a 1953 Mexican drama film directed by Roberto Gavaldón. It was entered into the 1954 Cannes Film Festival.

Turn is a double album by Dutch anarchist band The Ex.

A currency crisis, which is also called a balance-of-payments crisis, occurs when the value of a currency changes quickly, undermining its ability to serve as a medium of exchange or a store of value.

On the surface of the terminal vein is a narrow white band, named the lamina affixa.

Sometimes, it's nice to know things.

We suppose ourselves to possess unqualified scientific knowledge of a thing, as opposed to knowing it in the accidental way in which the sophist knows, when we think that we know the cause on which the fact depends, as the cause of that fact and of no other, and, further, that the fact could not be other than it is. Now that scientific knowing is something of this sort is evident — witness both those who falsely claim it and those who actually possess it, since the former merely imagine themselves to be, while the latter are also actually, in the condition described. Consequently the proper object of unqualified scientific knowledge is something which cannot be other than it is.

Bourbon for rage?

There is a wonderful young lady,
whom I've had the pleasure of knowing,
that is celebrating a birthday.
She may be one of the most fantastic woman I've ever met,
and easily a master (de)bater.
Hopefully she will be able to read this/download the song,
but that's making the assumption that farms have internet access.

Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley

Happy birthday Kaitlyn!

Pitiful Dancing

Good evening universe, and welcome to another exhausting day, here on Looks Like Coffee, Tastes Like Juice. I'd like to start this soirée by laying myself on the table, and sincerely apologizing. I am sincerely apologizing because I had prepared a post, as well as two mixtapes, for Valentines Day, Presidents Day (US) and Family Day (Canada, also known as StupidHolidayLand). Just the fact that I had the time on all of those holidays, as well as the resources, yet failed to even post, makes me shudder uncontrollably and shake with a self-loathing. So, for the sole reason that most of the world (spare approximately 5 lucky souls) did not get to hear an ass kicking Valentines Mixtape, I am truly remorseful. Anyways though, the earth is going to keep gravitating around the sun, Christmas will keep occurring on December 25th, and political imbroglios will continue to be prevalent, so, no serious harm has been done. Onwards? I think so!

Today's inanely short post is going to only consist of a mixtape, although a rather wonderful one, if I do say so.

Pitiful Dancing; An Official Looks Like Coffee, Tastes Like Juice Mixtape!

1. Now We Can See - The Thermals
2. Contender - The Pains of Being Pure at Heart
3. Thin Blue Flame - Josh Ritter
4. My Maudlin Career - Camera Obscura
5. Is This Love? - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

Have a phenomenal day,
and just so you're aware,
I've prepared a little surprise for all of you at the end of the week.

Epidermolysis Bullosa

This is the first post I've written since my arrival from Quebec, and to start it off, I'd like to formally thank my dear friend, and cousin, Joseph, for doing a wonderful job of keeping things in order while I was away. As you know, he did a fantastic job, and I am definitely looking forward to some more oft contributions.

Tonight is probably not the best time for me to be writing a post, I feel it necessary to point that out. This week, even, has been such an odd time in my life, that anything I say/do cannot really be held to me, as I think I may legally have some sort of temporal mental disorder. In the past week, I've had the feeling of love crash over me like a tidal wave, yet I've been eroded by the murky waters of defeat. I've felt some intense happiness, bitter sadness and alarming neutrality, among other indescribable emotions. I've pondered existential things, I've pondered hilarious things, and I've had incredibly detailed discussions on the consistency of mashed potatoes, and the warrants of manliness in modern society. Needless to say (perhaps because I've already spent an entire paragraph saying it?), I've had a helluva week.

I think the only reason I may be writing this, is the guilt that I feel for not having posted in such a long period of time. Regardless of all that, I'm posting right now. I haven't really prepared for a post, as you can already see by the obvious state of this one, and I'm not even on my own computer. Alas, I will write!

So, I just finished watching the movie Doubt, which featured the mind-boggling Meryl Streep, and Philip Seymour Hoffman, who is one of the many objects of my affection. It was an astounding film, which left me doubting even my own thoughts, and even resulted in a yelling match between my mother and I over the conclusion. I highly recommend this film for anyone... with eyes and ears?!

I just realized that Valentines' day is in six days, and readers of this here blog can definitely expect a post of... manic proportions the day before. The reason the post is not going to be on the actual date of Valentines' day, is because I will be at a wedding. I can tell you as of now though, that said post will include a two disc mixtape (I'm sure you can guess the theme), photos of my The Smiths/The Cure/The Stooges patented black valentines, and my list of favourite romantic songs/films/books/albums. I hope you thoroughly enjoy it!

I sincerely apologize for the absence of any music at all in this post, but I'm sure you can understand that the conditions it is being written under are not exactly ideal. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, and regular posts (that include music!) will resume on Monday, as well as an exciting new idea that I'll be running by you.

Until Monday!

Football!? What Is This Football You Talk About?

Welcome once again to this lazy Sunday afternoon on Looks Like Coffee Tastes Like Juice. I’m your procrastination aid; Joseph, I’ll be keeping you busy until the big game that you might be watching. Hopefully Norman will return in time to watch the Steelers kick butt.

For today’s music I’ll be posting 3 songs up for download one from the oddly entertaining Cult Hero/Cure and two from Radiohead I’ll also post one video from the ever so addicting Fleet Foxes.

I'm A Cult Hero- Cult Hero/The Cure

I was always fond of The Cure's early stuff the Alternative Rock mixture with Pop Rock was always welcomed with me but after Disintegration and latest periods things started to get weird for me and I felt they lost their touch anyway here is oddly fun, strangely addicting I'm A Cult Hero track off the Single.

2 + 2 = 5- Radiohead

Optimistic- Radiohead

You know I never knew why I didn't like Kid A, Amnesiac or Hail To The Thief maybe because it was hard to understand back when I was 12 I didn't appreciated fine art as much as I do now. Anyway now I realize what a masterpiece Kid A and what garbage Pablo Honey is (Though Creep and Anyone Can Play Guitar are great).

He Doesn't Know Why- Fleet Foxes

I believe Norman stated this as his favourite album of 08 but with good reason, the album is great I suggest taking a look at it.

That will be all for today, thanks for reading, have a wonderful week, and I'll be Bach. (Yes this joke was taken from a T-Shirt.)
