Best Wishes Norman, Also Greetings From Leamington

Good morning to everyone who is currently reading Looks Like Coffee Tastes Like Juices (Unless your in different times zones). Prior to Norman temporary leaving for Quebec I was asked to look after the blog for the week and I will be posting another entry hopefully tomorrow. If some of you readers and commenter alike don’t remember me or never had the chance to forget me I am Norman’s not so long lost cousin who happens to be called Joseph.

I made a few posts when the blog was still new this was before Norman’s high school shenanigans but then I accidentally fell through a portal to another dimension full of strange creatures and hidden secrets which lead me to become inactive for several months. I greatly apologize for my inactivity but enough with phony half true excuses I promise that I will contribute more towards your blog. I am although extremely happy to say that this blog has grew in everything imaginable from the people viewing from the contents you can find in it, thank you very much for posting in the blog and continuing to make it active. Thank you, m̀gòi, grazie, dĕkuji, danke, dōmo arigatō et finalement merci beaucoup pour ton aide.

Anyhow enough about me how is everyone this week?

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Now for the music in today’s blog because of my incredibly small collection which one day I’ll like expand I will only be posting one song a day for download but I’ll follow it up by two videos that I found on Youtube if that’s alright with all of you here.

See Me, Feel Me- The Who

This nice track can be found at the end of The Who’s first concept album Tommy.

Now for the videos I’ll be posting from Mozart one of them is Eine kleine Nachtmusik, you will know this one, and the other from his 25th Symphony those two pieces are to the ears as to what Nutella is to toast, in other words…

Excellent!

It's also an awesome movie as well!

If there is anything wrong with the post I would appreciate if you can post it so I can fix it as soon as possible, Thank you!

Also thank you for reading and have an excellent day.

Quebec Bound!

Hello everyone!
I'm off to Quebec!
While I'm away, speaking french and whatnot, this blog will be in the perfectly capable hands of one Dr. Joseph Najem. Please be kind to him.
A parting gift?! Why yes! I do have a parting gift for you!

Holy Shit

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Don't shine your censors on our midnight escapades.

Hello friends,
I'd just like to start by saying that I am slightly addicted to this song. If you walk by me in the hallway/street, and you don't here my faux-Scottish accent, trying to mimic this song; then you are deaf, friend. DEAF! Enjoy it!

Yeah, I yell like a prepubescent girl whenever I hear this song.

Anyways, onwards to the news and the sounds!

Sonic Youth! Sonic. Youth. Youth?! Sonic Youth.

You see the sub-heading above this?! Well, that's how I feel when I listen to Sonic Youth. Sure, I love them as much as any other snobby hipster does, yet, at least I can admit that they, pardon my french, confuse the living fuck out of me. I choose to continue listening to their music though, because sometimes I enjoy being confused, and, well, they're fantastic. You see, the reason I'm even writing about Sonic Youth right now, is because they're releasing another album. This new album, which may or may not be entitled The Eternity (uncharacteristically metal?), is going to be released on their new record label, Matador. Not much is known about the new album, but Thurston Moore had this to say;

The album will feature more than a few "heavy ass weirdo hooks" and that "it's rock-centric, but still experimental...I still don't know how to play the guitar."

Needless to say, I'm a little bit excited.

Here's a bit o' the ole Sonic Youth to tie you over until the new album comes out.

Teen Age Riot - Sonic Youth

Dark Was The Night

From their MySpace;

"Dark Was The Night
will be released on February 17th, 2009. Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National produced the album, and John Carlin, the founder of the Red Hot Organization was the executive producer. A total of 32 exclusive tracks have been recorded for the compilation. It will be available as a double cd/triple vinyl/download and will benefit the Red Hot Organization - an international charity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS. Red Hot was founded on the premise that even without a cure, AIDS remains a preventable disease – and music is a great vehicle to raise money and awareness for it. This is the 20th year of Red Hot, and this is the 20th release!"

Here is the track listing for this mind blowing album;

I soiled a perfectly good pair of pants after reading this. Then, after hearing three tracks from the album (which are all available for streaming on MySpace) I ruined another. This might just be the Merriweather Post Pavilion of charity albums. Yes, the Animal Collective references have started already.

Apparently, the new Antony & The Johnstons album is very, very good!

Expect a review of the new Andrew Bird album tomorrow.

Goodnight, my dear constituents, and pray tell that the wrath of exams does not fall upon you.

New Decemberists!

There is a new Decemberists song that was released (sans money!) on their website today. It is called The Rake Song, and will be included on their new full length, The Hazards Of Love.

I'm not completely happy with this song, as it starts to get a little annoying at the end. I think the Decemberists have started to concentrate a little more on capping songs off at the three and a half minute mark, then actually creating quality songs. Y'know that's just me though, maybe I'm just another fan yearning for those Picaresque days?

Regardless of my opinion, give the song a listen. The Hazards Of Love is out 3/24 via Capitol.

The Rake Song - The Decemberists

01 "Prelude"
02 "Hazards Of Love 1 (The Prettiest Whistles Won't Wrestle the Thistles Undone)"
03 "A Bower Scene"
04 "Won't Want For Love (Margaret In The Taiga)"
05 "Hazards Of Love 2 (Wager All)"
06 "The Queen's Approach"
07 "Isn't It A Lovely Night?"
08 "The Wanting Comes In Waves / Repaid"
09 "An Interlude"
10 "The Rake's Song"
11 "The Abduction Of Margaret"
12 "The Queen's Rebuke / The Crossing"
13 "Annan Water"
14 "Margaret In Captivity"
15 "Hazards Of Love 3 (Revenge!)"
16 "The Wanting Comes In Waves" (Reprise)
17 "The Hazards Of Love 4 (The Drowned)"

On another note, I'm trying out a new file upload website,
so if there's any trouble, please send an email this way.

Antony Hegarty

New York Magazine has a great piece (there are some shit moments) on Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons. It includes a bio and interview that I think all of you should read.

Thank you to Pulp and Circumstance, Juiced for pointing me towards this!

A word of warning, if anyone is considering writing their 9th grade french ISU on Bruce Springsteen, I urge you to reconsider.

My bed is a pool and the wall's on fire.

Bonjour mes amis! Welcome to another week of Looks Like Coffee, Tastes Like Juice goodness. This week has been particularly fruitful in the world of music, with releases from Animal Collective (you have NO idea how strongly I feel about this) and The Steps. Jesus, in hindsight, it really hasn't been a fruitful week for the music world. I guess that we'll have to make the best of it. So, enjoy. Onward, Russia!

The Steps' Steps

If you live outside Austin, Texas, or Japan, you most likely don't know who The Steps are. Hey, you might not even care. This is my blog though, so I'm going to tell you about The Steps.

Lover please, do not fall to your knees...

French is a language that I have never understood.
French is a language that I do not understand.
French is a language that I am incapable of understanding.
French is a language that I do not plan to understand in the immediate future.

Jesus Christ, does anybody catch my drift here?!

Gobbledigook

Good afternoon! Welcome to another edition of Looks Like Coffee, Tastes Like Juice. Before I get down to business with today's post, I have a petite announcement to make. You know the picture on the top of the page? The one of the intersection in Boston? Well, I'm thinking a change is in order, considering it is a new year. So! If anyone has any suggestions for a new photo, or has a still that they've taken (all photos will be credited), it would be very much appreciated. There will be a small post showing all the photos, and then I will use my keen decisive powers to pick a winner. The winner's photo will don the blog til' ... 2010! So, yeah, get on that. The contest will run until January 25th. Another point of potential interest; the blog will be run by a(n unnamed) contributor for about 4 days, between January 28th - 31st, at which time, I'll be skiing the snowy slopes of Quebec, and enjoying the Winter Carnival! So, January looks to be an exciting month for myself, and the music world in general. Below is a list of my most anticipated albums of 2009; it looks to be a helluva year.

I took my lady to dinner ...

Hello Universe! I thought that the first post of 2009, which is this one, coincidentally, would be very verbose, and full of wonderful things. Trust me, that post will come (most likely) tomorrow, but for the first post of 2009, I figured I would do something a little more appropriate, and let the music speak for itself. Enjoy.
